If you want to start reading i suggest : player handbook 1 and 2, DMG 1 and 2 and all the complete books (complete arcane, complete warrior)
Ive got almost all the books (which is roughly 160ish) and its amazing.! Kinda hard at first but after that its great!
3.5 gives the same thing with prestige classes. I have a group of 5 fighters and each are different.

3.5 and 5.0 dungeon master here ask your Captain what you want! why people think 4e is less fun than 3.5. I never played 4th edition.
Imma students in engineering and i knew does that mean i can final'y graduate?
