In college in the 1990s, this was called a “Bar Rag” and it was the rite of passage that everyone who turned legal drinking age in our group had to have on their 1st night out at the bars.
I had a job and the layoff was large enough to trigger a 90 day warning, they made me work every day until then, training my replacement or I would lose my severance. Boss was a dick. My last day, my boss said, for the 1st time, “If there is anything I can do to help you get another job, just ask” I looked at him and said, “I start my new job on Monday”. He deflated and just said, “oh good for you”.
My good friend repairs the airport X-ray machines and TSA shares stories with him. A 19 year old tried to bring a kilo of weed in his carry on. They wouldn’t have flagged it except he had a 750ml bottle of Jack Daniels next to it.
It would take a generation. Along with just building factories, you need all the training and infrastructure that makes manufacturing at a larger scale possible. We gave that up in the 1980s.

1) Most don’t offer paid sick time, it’s a perk offered for some jobs but there is no govt minimum. 2) You are highly discouraged from taking any, with things like Drs notes over a certain length. People will just come to work sick3) Long term illnesses, you can go on disability, which is kinda a mixed if insurance and govt program.
I can’t foster, we fostered a kitten once and she’s still here. We would just keep every animal. At one point we had 3 cats and 4 dogs.
The music is super upbeat. Like watch the flying flamethrower annihilate a wasps nest and feel upbeat.
Had those on soda cans in middle school, it was super easy to cut your fingers on them. I hate them
There is one in my neighborhood, that the guy had it vinyl wrapped in matte black. It’s less ugly but it likely cost an additional $10k USD.
Those two DUIs are why he got discharged from the Army.
Ahh yes, the Flying Trash Bin Bandits. There is a reason they are so successful as a species, they are very good at being bold assholes.
Why is pretending to film the pig with an empty phone case?
Road thru Gold Base on a cycling tour about 10 years ago. There are no signs saying what it is but it looks like a movie set lot or failed themed resort. There are buildings with styles from bunch of different eras and some trailers. All of this is next to a huge cattle feed lot, so it smells really bad.
It’s the most hiked mountain in SD county. People go up, get hurt or dehydrated and can’t come down. The rescue helicopter goes there daily to get people down once it gets warm
This is next to my house, we watch someone get rescued off that mountain, via helicopter, everyday during the summer.
Much of that $300m loss are promissory notes, aka pay outs to investors, which is just a shell game to avoid stock price collapse but still loot the company.
I seem to recall YouTube using Flash plugin to work. Am I remembering that right?
Ahoy Mates! It’s time to ride the waves again.
My 1st thought was Rush as well.
Lot’s of my coworkers are Indian, they explained that a lot of Indians know Hindi because it’s taught in school, English because it’s the language of business/higher education and then their home language. There are something like 28 official languages in India, that blows my mind.
The heating plates on mine are removable and I can wash them in the sink but I’m gonna try this next time.
I’ve never, in my 35 year working career in the US, called a colleague by their business title.
Her badge looks like an Amazon Corporate employee badge, so makes sense.
Seattle was like that prior to Amazon making downtown its headquarters.
Not in the bedroom, but I have cameras setup in my elderly parents living room and my Dads home office/study to keep an eye on him as he has early stages of dementia. It’s more so my Mom can leave the house for a few hours and we can watch him, when we live over an hour away.
I majored in history in college, and I found out about the details of this from the Watchmen TV series. It was not widely taught.
No, they had a few derailments, and then be became unprofitable to run and it sat unused for decades. A few of the funnels have had cave ins and it would cost a lot to rehab it. There was some plans to restart it to handle shipping from Mexico to the US but those stalled.
