Well that sure is a graphic fail.
I just know the population increased a lot, which is a major factor in crime numbers. Obviously more data needed since crime also went down

But it also went down dramatically. So one should examine why it did this. One reason could be massive population increase.
Point is there's clearly some other factor and so the data is worthless. Also, the population has increased significantly.
If you wanted some sort of false correlation, you should have ended the graph sooner.
Apparently it was more than one issue, but campaign finance laws have put a lot of people in jail.
