Barely over the speed limit + everyone was doing it, perhaps. In Germany, everyone else around you speeding is a valid defense (if proven) because it would be more dangerous to slow traffic down, than to speed as well.
I heard it's illegal to sleep in your car, too, in some places in the US (not sure how wide spread it is). So you HAVE to get home from the bar somehow. Not a justification obviously, but it's like it's designed to lead to drunk driving.

Maybe I'm giving them too much credit, but if they were confident that there were enough votes to get, surely they would try. If anything, progressives will vote for him, because of Trump being Trump, so in this election their votes are probably a given.

There's no point in being super progressive and making the big changes the system needs immediately only to be a one-term president and have all of it revoked via executive orders on day one of the next republican president. I'm not saying Biden is a perfect progressive being constrained by the system, but there's also the reality of politics. And I'm sure he would do more, sooner (maybe even on Israel) if he didn't have to run against Trump.
