I would go with the nose. Less points of failure and easier to upgrade or add extra.

Does the fan move without hitting the ram? Do any parts sit in a way that is abnormal or slanted? If everything works fine then.....
Is there important data on the D drive? Worst case just reformat. Let it check the drive and “fix” it. If it repeats, google.
Id the D drive internal or external?

Cigarette dispenser. Pack goes in the large opening, lighter in the small square, smokes in the box. Lift and set back to reveal a smoke.

Something like 3 in 1 oil. Even something like bicycle chain lube works. No grease. Lube the parts that sticks out of the motor and spins.
All you need to do is clean it and oil certain parts of the motor. I did this many times and saved a ton of money on replacements
