Even if they convince themselves that they really need a wheelchair for some reason, its still disrespectful to people who actually need one

If a was trans I would be outraged. It's like a person using a wheelchair to garner sympathy/attention even though they can walk just fine.

It gives them a reason to boss other people around and demand that they obey, causing them to stand out and feeding their lust for attention

It also makes them feel empowered, as they can demand special treatment (such as made-up pronouns) and still claim the moral high ground.

The people who use such words are just seeking attention whether or not they admit it to themselves. They just want to feel special.

How can you feel like a "xim" or a "thon" when those words have no meaning? It's like saying "I feel like I'm a flabergarberwubleflub".

Think about pronouns. I get why some people want to go by "they", but ze, zir, xim, hir, phe, thon, etc. are all totally meaningless words.

That's why I made the comparison to Goth kids from the 90s. All they want is attention so they can feel special, but theyre not really trans

I don't think this is a conscious thing, just that some people convince themselves they are trans when they really just want to feel special

Because if you're not committed to transitioning you get all the attention and sympathy that group enjoys while still being able to back out

Even if it's subconscious and lacks malicious intent, it still shouldnt be tolerated. The road to hell is always paved with good intentions.

I don't think these people want to turn the world into "1984". More likely, it's a subconscious tactic used to deflect from valid criticism.

If that sounds familiar, it's because it's exactly the same reason why the IngSoc government of Oceania invented Newspeak in Orwell's "1984"

The idea is to make it harder and harder for your opponent to get their point across by reducing the number of words available to them.

It's the same thing with redefining "trans"; it allows people to deflect from accusations that they're not truly committed to transitioning.

Redefining words is a dishonest attempt to derail discussion via ambiguity. "PoC can't be racist" is used to avoid addressing black bigotry

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If "trans" is redefined to mean the same thing as "dysphoric" then why even have two different words to begin with?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's like the how some people want to redefine racism to mean prejudice + power even though most people still go by the original definition.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think that a majority of trans people still use the original meaning and the people trying to redefine it are a vocal minority.

Pointing out anti-white bigotry is not the same thing as thinking someone else must hate you just because you're white.

I don't think they want to establish a cabal, but letting anyone identify as anything they want is unwise. See previous post re: "otherkin"

To suggest otherwise trivializes a massive life-altering decision, the result of which many people have committed there entire lives to.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To put it simply: "trans people" who show no commitment to transitioning are like temporary tattoos. If you can wash it off, it's not real.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A trans person shouldn't be able to simply change their mind and immediately return to being cis. That is not how commitment works.

A biological woman can't become a man just by cutting her hair and changing her clothes, so a trans woman shouldn't be able to either.

If your "transition" requires less of a commitement than getting a tattoo, how do you expect anyone to take you seriously?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If your idea of being trans is to put on makeup and grow your hair, it comes across more like a fad than a permanent life-altering decision.

You need to marry yourself to the concept of being trans. You can't just be dating it on-again off-again and still claim to be trans.
