I can find the “working definition” of antisemitism on a U.S. gov site but can’t find such regarding anti-Islamic/Muslim. Seems it gets “covered” under hate crimes. From personal experience and media I see far more anti-Islamic/Muslim than antisemitic, even with broad definitions. I suspect many of the actions against pro-Palestinian protestors and efforts to silence as well as label them antisemitic to be anti-Islamic/Muslim based.

I immediately associated 1864 with the Civil War and the South’s distinct Southern Democrats. We used to see the Democrat Party split their presidential/v.p. ticket to include a “Northerner and Southerner” such as we saw with Kennedy and LBJ. Once Johnson became president he knew there would be a major shift against his support of Civil Rights. He underestimated how extreme it would become.

As a former moderator elsewhere I’d say just be careful about over posting, ranting, and hate baiting. Not sure what imgur’s rules are but publicly criticizing moderators is generally not tolerated.

I have a lot of respect for John Stewart. As to the KKK & the Civil Rights movement I do see some parallels. For example many of the things happening such as brutality by police were not being shown and reported locally along with attempts to keep them from being reported. It wasn’t until things were shown on the national nightly news that large swaths of people became aware of just how horribly the protestors were being abused. Unfortunately that moved a lot of white S. Democrats to the GOP.

If there’s one thing good about all this it’s that much more of what is going on is getting reported and shared. Efforts by Israel gov and others to quash anything that isn’t pro-Israel are not as successful as they once were.

I haven’t seen anyone condone what Hamas did and does. But I do see how Israels actions have created organized violence against them. Created protests against what they are doing. And I see how certain Jewish billionaires & political supporters try to make any criticism of Israel equivalent to anti-semitism. Claim Israel has a right to reclaim and govern the land they held 2,500 years ago & anyone anti-Zionist is anti-semitic.

It’s called “controlling the narrative”. Organized groups can collectively target anything they disfavor. Seen it in local politics where they are organized against anyone that doesn’t support what they do. When Nextdoor was organized in my city, pro city hall groups would constantly report me when I’d show people were being misled and I included linked references. They moved to have their ppl as “Neighborhood Leads”. Moved to control local Facebook groups. Control city news.

Have known many Jews in my long life and most are not this way, but there are clearly those who seem to find conspiracy against Jews everywhere they look. Someone flips me off it’s because they are upset. Someone flips them off it’s because they are Jewish? Like how the hell would someone know they are Jewish vs Arab vs Persian? IDF shot Israeli hostages wearing nothing above the waist, waving a surrender cloth, speaking Hebrew when one IDF soldier yelled “terrorists”. Even they can’t tell.

Dallas Morning News opinion piece saying anti-Zionist is anti-semitic because Jews have right to self rule the land they occupied 2,000 years ago. It’s in their national anthem. Self ruled a few hundred years some 2,500 ago after violently displacing the ppl there. Now taking land others have lived on for thousands. Denying others self rule. Hypocrites blind to their hypocrisy. Persecuting while claiming persecuted. Justifying cruel injustices. While suppressing all criticism as “anti-semitic”.

I have strong doubts. California & other states including Texas already sell “excess” to other states. Regular hypocrisy of Texas claiming an “independent grid” & blaming “green energy” for the Texas Freeze while pushing for more wind & solar production. Why? Because it means profits for provider businesses. I see no “lower incentive”. If anything it’s grown. For sunny & windy states” (Tx is both) they sell to less sunny/windy states. Arguments on both sides seem more political than factual.

Several sources say antisemitism as it is used today is specific to Jews. There’s also several semi-official definitions used as “working definitions” by various countries. Then there’s Jewish advocate definitions that include anti-Israel and anti-Zionism which has been specifically criticized as a form of suppressing free speech regarding legitimate criticisms such as violations of human rights and international laws.

Haven’t seen that in the US with most ppl I know but had one gf that did something like this every time. Seemed like it’d take at least 5 minutes for her to order anything. One or two things, I understand. That and some people have allergies they need to be careful with. But for her it was like some special entitlement or elite-ism to be able to muck with people.

The terrible things certainly get a lot of media coverage. But stop and think of all the amazing things people have done. From all races. Think of how most societies go about very complex lives through daily cooperation. There’s whole organizations most people don’t hear about that coordinate all the entities involved in disaster response. International response to COVID that quickly developed/distributed a vaccine that saved billions of lives. War/evil is not the norm. But it is the headlines.

So their farm was saved by fighting for the losing side? The battle flag equivalent to a participation award for last place? Over 150 years ago? That proud heritage?

I have dogs so oleander is on the list of plants to not have. The bee thing seems primarily urban legend. Wikipedia - “oleander flowers are nectarless and therefore cannot transmit any toxins via nectar”.

Thanks for that. Interesting to find there are plants that can make honey toxic, although “deadly” doesn’t seem to wash. Mostly just cause hallucinations in adult humans so it’s used for that.

At the very first which is hard to see, there’s a pair of, uh, Crocs (heh) … or similar slip on’s to his left. As others have said, better to go shoeless than wrestle with shoes that can trip you up.

No doubt part of it is Trump kowtowing to Putin & failing to bribe Ukraine into a sham investigation. Then you’ve got people like Ted (Cancun) Cruz politicizing “The Border” yet when a bill comes up to fund more Border Agents he’s against it. Hid in a closet during the Jan 6th riots then claims they are political prisoners who were just staging a protest despite video evidence of violence against “Blue Lives”. I’d say it’s hard to imagine someone that slimy yet their golden idol is far worse.

Reading a gov link saying a nuisance alligator will likely return to where it was trapped and be harder to catch. Also that relocating them is also a problem. I know what that implies but I’d like to hear from someone who knows what happens to the alligator.
