That's only true if the alkali metals are in elemental form- this isn't a chemical reaction, it's just what happens if water boils supa fast

NaCl melts at ~1500 F, so pretty sure the water near the molten salt boils almost instantly. Since steam takes up waaaaay more volume (1/?)
