Do explain

So if you were convicted for molesting children, you'd be unable to get the statement for good behavior if the job is at a day care, but if you're just gonna be doing random administrative work for a supermarket, you'd be fine

You say "the world" but at least in Europe I don't think it's as much of an issue as in the US. I've never had to indicate that I am a felon on an application form. The only thing that can be required in my country is, loosely translated, a statement of good behavior which you get from the government. This can only be requested for the specific categories that are relevant for that particular job you're applying to and will not mention anything else. It will also not tell you what happened. /1

Exactly

Is it really that deep? I kind of doubt that. Seems to me the easier explanation, and therefore more likely, is that it's more pleasing to the user to hear their thoughts/opinion validated, making them more likely to come back.

Why does it need to be all or nothing? You're never going to get everyone to agree with your world view, and if that's you're goal, you're just setting up someone else to win

Thank you for posting an actual, useful call to action. I hate all the defeatist "well the whole system sucks" posts that you see so much, without any suggestion on how to actually fix things

Exactly!

The original comment mentioned nothing about the stuff he did specifically, just a generic argument of "they're changing sides but chose the wrong one to begin with". What I responded with was a generic response.

There's also the part where, if you agreed in general just not with this guy, you could've mentioned it. Instead you're just ignoring the entire argument. So what now? What's your solution? We just shun everyone who tries to change sides and hope somehow the Republicans still lose?

Great argumentation! Thanks for providing me with some useful pointers instead of randomly stating "oof this guy bad" Ffs is this what passes as argumentation with you?

I've looked him up, yes. As far as I can tell, he's a classic republican who takes maybe a bit more rigid in his thinking than most.

If there's worse stuff he's done, I didn't immediately find it, but then again, you put in exactly 0 effort to help me, so thank for that. /1

The left, of which I consider myself very much a part, is too occupied with the _reason_ things are done, and not nearly enough concerned with _what_ is done. Yes, reasons absolutely matter, but if you want results, you're gonna have to accept that the world, and especially the people in it, are not perfect.

Let's try to get some actual change going instead of burning everyone to ashes online and not affecting, and fixing, the real world.

I understand the sentiment. What the republican party has been doing is abhorrent. What many of its members have said, done and supported is awful. But if we want people to change, we do need to keep accepting that change. If we're just going to shun everyone who stops supporting it because they should've done so earlier, all you're doing is stopping them from wanting to come out. /2

You people are just insatiable aren't you? All you're doing is making sure no one else wants to come out and learn from their mistakes, because they've got nothing else to lose anyway.

I also think it's quite an assumption that every single member was actively fully supporting what the republican party has been doing. Maybe some have been trying to change the party from within. Maybe they found themselves in too deep before they realized /1

Fuck's wrong with you? ๐Ÿ˜‚

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't really get the point you're trying to make with this

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So what's your solution then? How are you working on fixing things?

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Exactly, and it's fucking sad :')

She's not perfect okay, but why bring this up? With the system you guys have it's one of two parties, that's all you get. Least of two evils and all that

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Congratulations, that is a issue. How is that related to the issue of people not voting? It's not. There are a lot of problems in the US regarding the elections, and by far the easiest one that left leaning voters can do is to _actually vote_

My thoughts exactly. These "gotchas" are so desparate and embarrassing. I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment behind them, but can we please keep some semblance of adulthood and rational thought? God knows we need it...
