Looks like a riding arena with synthetic rubber surface. It doesn´t freeze and gives a secure but flexible footing for horses.

Nothing bad, horse people know bad days exist. Sometimes you fail with horses, you just learn from your mistakes and try do better next time
Umh, you´ve never really ridden a horse, have you? Takes huge amount of skills and physical fitness.
The horse jumped well at first and then got anxious as the previous rider was riding so poorly. After that it´s confidence was gone.
The horse was absolutely terrified. You never punish an animal that is afraid, it leads to nowhere. There´s more than physical pain involved
