It looks like a pilates machine that's being used with a standard exercise, but it seems like the length of the cords wasn't set correctly and might be too much tension set.Definitely some muscle and tendon damage and possibly joint damage. Severity could range from mild soreness to muuuuuch much worse depending on their flexibility.

Not a solution, but a way to help prevent unwrranted/illegal entry is to upgrade doors with locks and latching that are meant for more than a deterrent of accidental entries: https://www.acmelocksmith.com/articles/how-to-reinforce-entry-door/
