[2] Stingray would have probably died shortly after giving birth with the hook and stuff in her.
With the hook in her mouth and babies ready to be born, she would be too startled and probably try to attack them or die hours later.
I think that's what adds to it. These people have no idea how to handle it yet are still risking their lives to poisonous barbs to save it.
