I use semicolons and em dashes all the time, but seeing as how they're increasingly associated with AI, I'm not surprised younger writers don't use them. I may have to stop using them as well.

In the sense that radical means "pertaining to the root" of something, yes. its original meaning has been corrupted by misuse.
