I think he meant science more of as a concept and not that science is always 100% infallible.
Also, some bands have a pit for guitars and xylophone or whatever. Sometimes a piano player is down there.
I played piano in a marching band. Although there wasn't much marching. I had a cart that was rolled to the field and I stayed stationary.
