I’m just as lame as the rest of you. Nothing special here. he/him
Look into educational video games and see if any seem particularly interesting or fun to her (you don't have to bring up the educational aspect to her if you think that might dissuade her trying it). Any recommendations I could give would be a bit outdated now, but I always loved games like Zoombinis and ClueFinders. Zoombinis was a lot of puzzles, while ClueFinders was more overtly math and reading practice. Both were made by The Learning Company
The savings will trickle down just like our taxes when we give them all to rich people!
It may be less related to what tech was actually available vs what would be recognizable in a comic. The save icon is still a floppy disk, even though kids these days have never used a floppy disk. While a rotary phone may have already been outdated at the time the comics were written, it is clearly a phone to the readers in a way a more modern representation of a home phone might not have conveyed so clearly
I read that as "I took a really great photo" and thought it was an artistic accomplishment. Anyway, congrats on your success OP
Damn. Imagine being the kid your mom *didn't* pick to save
The "Right to bear arms" in the US is a joke. Police can execute you in the street because "I thought he had a gun!" even if you're not doing anything aggressive or threatening. Even if you actually don't have a gun. Even if you have a permit. Even if you brandished your weapon in a 100% legal way, our cops are cowards, and they will shoot you the moment they feel uneasy. Learning the law is NOT a prerequisite for being a cop. They will kill you for their ignorance.
It's intended for medical purposes for sure, and it's being marketed as a medical device, but at the end of the day, it's still used to jerk off. I'm not trying to discount the medical aspect, nor do I mean to imply that any regular toy could accomplish the same purpose with the same efficacy. At the same time, its primary function is to help you masturbate.
There are, of course, also people who see pole dancing as too provocative in general and think it is "inappropriate" in all contexts or sexually explicit by nature, typically because pole dancing has to be done in minimal clothing because friction. I disagree, but that's more related to differences in opinions on modesty than on pole dancing specifically
Personally, I don't see any individual dance style as inappropriate for children. Individual performances may be more or less provocative within a certain style, so it's not a big deal to me if a kid sees a pole dancer perform, as long as the individual performance is not explicit. Labeling an art form as inherently sexual or "inappropriate" only serves to hamper creativity and limit personal expression.
It's generally associated with stripping and tends to be a sexually provocative dance style, even when done without the intent to specifically be sexual. The line for what is appropriate for children to see when it comes to anything provocative varies depending on who you talk to, but many people consider pole dancing to be on the "too provocative" side of the line. My assumption is that they don't necessarily see anything wrong with pole dancing, just that it's too provocative for a little kid.
It is exceptionally difficult for most individuals to conceptualize something for which they have no comparable experience. They have to see it for themselves before they can actually begin to understand. Often, it is not a result of malice, rather it is the product of ignorance and, usually, privilege. If you do not suffer the abuse, it is easier to believe it does not happen. This is part of why it is so important to call it out when it happens - to deprive people of the excuse of ignorance.
ChatGPT has no system in place to filter the information it shares as being accurate or not. While it is a useful tool for breaking down complex ideas into more understandable language or parts, there is no way to verify any of what it says, and it has been known to make false statements. I'm not suggesting you stop using it, since it can still be helpful, just spreading awareness about its limitations.

I'm not saying AI, or even ChatGPT specifically, isn't helpful. It has a myriad of applications and uses that would immensely improve human life (like using a baked good sorting program to detect cancer cells (link to follow)). The fact is that our entire social system is designed around exploitation, and there need to be regulations put in *now* by people who actually understand the issues before they spiral out of control.
Sorry boss, I can't come to work. My dog is holding me hostage
Choosing to perpetuate known problems in favor of convenience and simplicity is how humanity has been fucking itself over for generations. Yes, us individuals just end up swimming in the shit because we don't control what gets dumped in the bowl, but collectively, it is VITAL that we stop saying "it's terrible, but its easier" to the problems the older generations have created through decades of that same shitty attitude. It's terrible, and it's getting worse. We have to do something.
Struggling to start or finish particularly boring or difficult tasks IS a primary symptom of the executive dysfunction associated with ADHD. There can absolutely be other things going on, but this is very typical of ADHD.
Ineffective for void cats. It could work with other kinds, but voids blend into shadows and other things in full daylight
And not just for dancing, either. I don't care that you're tone deaf - pitch doesn't really matter when you're at full volume. Those patterns clash? Only if you don't believe in yourself. Wear that funky outfit, buy those ridiculous shoes, do your makeup like you're in an 80s sci-fi movie, move your body the way you feel good, sing every word to every song you know and as many words as you can to the ones you don't. The purpose of life is enjoying the passage of time, so enjoy every part you can
The sudden jerk *down* when running is immensely uncomfortable. Normal side-to-side motion doesn't feel like much, but up-and-down gets exaggerated really easily and hurts, specifically as they reach maximum stretch and bounce back up.
Love how there's no age limit either. I can see the argument being made if you make it to high-school or something and still believe in Santa, but a little 6 year old believing the thing every adult and piece of media they've seen says is true is not a reflection of intelligence. They have no sense of scale for the earth or the speed Santa would have to go. There are lots of things that are essentially magic in their brains. Like the microwave. How does it work? Magic. Santa? Magic. Totally fair
It doesn't matter if it's annoying. There's no reason to be an asshole and make a big deal out of not liking someone's voice when all you need to do is order your coffee and get out of the way for the next person to order. It doesn't matter if it's a learned / intentional way of speaking on her part. It is rude to mock someone's voice, and it is unacceptable to treat customer service workers the way he does when they are effectively held hostage by their job to suffer your abuse.
Exactly. Self check out isn't the problem. I like that they have self check out. They also need to have regular check out and stop using the existing self check out as an excuse to further understaff and leave the regular check out lanes unmanned. Self check out is fantastic if you don't want to talk to the cashier, but it's problematic for people with physical conditions or other disabilities who may have more difficulty trying to ring up a cart load of stuff in a cramped space by themselves.
Also, I just realized the original post is 3 years old. I really need to stop browsing on random
But I got good grades in school, so clearly there wasn't anything wrong with my brain. No problems to identify, no help needed. Just a lazy teenager intent on defying authority. I must have been CHOOSING to cripple myself all this time. CHOOSING to forget my homework, show up late to everything, forget to eat, misunderstand social situations, annoy all of my peers, leave personal projects unfinished, & spend all my carefully saved money on things I'll never look at again. A spanking will fix it.
I didn't get diagnosed until I was 25. It's rather disheartening to look back on my life and see how much other people's shit advice (like "just apply yourself!" heard almost every day) and lack of interest in actually helping me contributed to the way I struggle now. I wish just one person had at least tried identifying WHY I was struggling instead of labeling it as laziness and moral failing.
Everyone gets one whether they qualify for the annual raise or not. This happened to me last year, because I was 2 weeks shy of qualifying (despite having worked for another Starbucks for 2 years before starting at my current store. It wasnt consecutive, so it didnt count).Giving the employee the "congrats on not getting a raise!" slip is not intentional to rub it in nor callous disregard. It's an annual update given to every employee, regardless of their tenure.
