Cosplay isn't purely about canon accuracy, it's about having fun with a costume based on something you enjoy. Let people have their fun.

The Game Dev department at my alma mater has a binary one that's says "this is a welcome mat".
I would rather carry that case and have a lit screen, longer-running, and more portable solution than buying an original GameBoy.
I mean, unless you're into that, but that's a whole different topic.
