Piss off … I’m not letting you downplay my success. Sorry you lack talents.
Excuse me? What about carpentry or teaching implies a privilege. You can piss off with that. I came from being poverty poor. I had to start somewhere for both of those fields. My first teaching job had nearly 400 applicants I was up against. At no point in time did I just “walk into a job” - I have worked my ass off to make a name for myself and to be a person that employers want. Piss off with your implying I haven’t worked my ass off … I have earned my success mfer
I love how this comment is more specific than mine - but is exactly what I’m talking about — it gets upvoted … my comment downvoted. I see other comments in this post saying similar things to what my comment is saying - and they are upvoted. Imgurians ruin everything.
If you work in the tech sector … it’s a mess. I’ll agree with that. I still know applying to 1000 jobs in LinkedIn won’t typically yield a job. Which is the thing I’m saying is pointless.
Why would that be more confusing? Is teaching somehow unique in getting a job?I also teach computer science. I’m not beholden to teaching. I also spent a decade as a carpenter. I’m not clueless.I’m very confident that applying to 1000 jobs is a bad approach.
And as far as parents … no. My parents of no help to anything. I’m saying “pick yourself up by your bootstraps”? No … not at all. I’m straight up saying all you dumb fucks dropping 1000 apps are doing it wrong. You are straight up doing it all wrong.Maybe you should talk with people who do hiring and figure out why y’all doin it wrong. The first dude that I supported - literally said they handle hiring.
Do you want me to send you a book on how to make friends?Let’s take an example. Let’s say you want to get into Web Dev work. IF you want to college for computer science, then you should be making connections with people through college and internship or any early work. IF you are self taught, it would be wise to take some classes or attended PD events in your area or any other steps to make physically meeting people in Web Dev in your area. Why is this surprising info‽
I feel like you know the answer to all those questions. “How do you make connections?” … really? Go hang out with some people … talk with people. If you can’t connect with people … then it’s going to be hard to get a job. That’s not new … that’s as old as time.
You can belittle my answer; however, I’m only in my 40’s. I rarely apply to jobs - and am always employed. I’m confident that I know what I’m doing. Maybe you should question your methods.
It sucks that this is getting downvoted. It’s not wrong at all. People keep saying “it’s a numbers game”. Wrong - it’s a connections game. You need to meet people and know people. You need to become known in an industry. If you are applying to 700 jobs … I’ll assume you have no friends or connections in the industry. I support @DarkHourse answer.
Green Lacewing … I believe. It’s like an aphid. Sorta.
Not today FBI guy.
@OP should remove the “science” tag. 🙂

Are you always ready? To be honest … I try not to leave a digital trail of genuine threats. So - FBI guy … I will harm no billionaires or whatever.

As a social studies teacher - I see the advantages to you engaging with politics. I teach Computer Science … so I just avoid all the politics. 😁
I also teach Middle School … and regularly tell students that they aren’t allowed to debate their parent’s political stance. Cuz I don’t care about their parent’s political position.
Really? The fireman in my city make damn good money … over double the state median … more than teachers, more than police, more than nurses. I think they are fine.
I must try!
this guys got it. You’ve clearly done this before.
*quality potato’s in an image ;)
Right on! Thanks for the tip!
Ah! I thought it was a 32”. Makes sense then.
