Oh, definitely not cheaper. In the US I can find 1L of cream for around $3-$4, while the 250g can costs $4...
It also tastes differently because other flavors and ingredients are added to it. But from a consumers perspective it's the cheaper route.
Or just take heavy cream and sugar, whip it in a mixer until you get whipped cream... Just saved yourself about $50 :)
Why have I never heard of this show? Where can I stream it online? Clearly this isn't available on Netflix :(
