I agree with the others; if you can reduce, just reduce. I was a pretty heavy drinker on the weekends with annual periods of sobriety. Once I found out I was gonna be a dad, I gave myself two rules. Rule #1: No drinking at home. Even though my wife drinks, I choose not to partake. Rule #2: I don't drink around my kid. This has helped me save so much money to give back to my family.
It is unfortunate, but that is correct. Until a third party can gain the necessary recognition amongst the population to compete with Democrats and Republicans, voting for a third party with no deep historical roots or traction will only result in a "burned" vote. And when it comes down to an election where democracy is at risk, every vote matters. Republicans want two things in the coming elections, either a vote for R or a vote for a third party (because that's just one less vote for Dems).
