More or less. The level of corruption, or the perception there of, is relative to the standards of each country. However, we shouldnt conflate lobbying with corruption. We should be specific if something is a corrupt act. My country seems to have a low tolerance of any kind of political corruption, often dispatching politicians from important offices over relatively minor things.

Sometimes I feel like americans dont think europe also has gigantic companies who are lobbying in their respective countries. This isnt a uniquely american thing.

Its just a prayer asking for grace or favor. It may be a petition that the holy spirit works in you, helps you to be a better person or handle a specific sinfull situation in order to stay in Gods friendship and resolve it.

No, but of course being good, acting good, that makes you a hood person? What is the good? Maybe this can be dogmatically defined, maybe it can be perceived as silly though still being good… what you think is silly can be a serious attempt at achieving the good to others, so maybe remember that whilst commenting.

… issues that I believe this post is aimed at (abortion, same sex marriage, gender issues), the questions of the limits of liberty, are not simply about control from a conservative perspective. From perspectives of atheistic humanistic (Hitchens), Aristotelian, judeo-christian, we find rationale for protection of the weak and vulnereable. Thats the conservative concern in these cases, not an obsession about other peoples private life.
As a christian with an ma in philosophy (which granted isnt special) with a focus on religion and theories of knowledge understand the sentiment of the post, but of course as any nuanced reader will understand, its contextually contingent. Religion provides an ethical framework from which law can be established. This is also the case with atheistic worldviews. How we construct the law within the ethical framework in a way that seeks the common good is challenging. The typical inflammatory 1/2

Thats because this argument doesnt adress the issue. Everbody approves bodily autonomy and wont force anyone to give blood. Abortions however, seems to be an active ending of someones life. Yes that someone is dependant on your body, blood and nurishment. But it is a natural, reasonable kind of dependancy, not at all like a regular blood transfusion.
