As far as I am aware, this won't directly effect anyone outside of America. It could however be just the beginning of something more global.
Does the centre portion encased in glass rotate? It looks like it should rotate!

That reacts to the environment the player is in? Could be a nice quick fix, but not take away from the fantastic art going on. :)
I don't work with materials much - level designer - but could you not map an emissive material outline to the character model 1/2
So long as the player can easily see the difference, even a faint glow or bold contrasting outline could help. Looking great otherwise :)
Struggled slightly in the last few gifs to actually see the player model, however, that could be because I've not played it. :)
My only critique, and it's a tame one at that, is to make the SM of character easier to differentiate from the boss and environment. ^^
