don't glorify those that enslaved and abused their ancestors. Less of an active attempt to change minds and more just common courtesy.
As an outsider, I don't think the goal was to stop racism by changing people mind sets but rather to allow people to live in towns that 1/2
I think the main issue was that the person advising them to do so was the president at the time
