But in our 50% racist, sexist, misogynist, bigoted country the road to national governing power runs through swing states. I get the anger, but that statement is insane. California has protections for transgender rights and healthcare, strengthened under Newsom. Texas is banning all care and criminalizing even being gay or trans. By far, the best thing for trans people is to get the Democratic party into power in the US, whatever it takes. With our fucked up electoral system and right-wing populace, any presidential hopeful has to stake out a viable national position. Like Obama did on gay marriage. Wake up.
AOC is awesome. But stop trying to make legislators into presidents. She'd be better as House speaker, or in Senate leadership. As for President, first worry about WINNING, and then ability to govern, i.e. pass actual laws. Newsom, Pritzger, and Bashear are governors with proven track records of actually winning and wielding executive power effectively. As for Newsom, listen to his interview with Ezra Klein. He is far from perfect, but is more interesting than I had thought.

But most cruising sailboats small enough to be damaged by orcas are owned by middle-class retirees or younger couples who have sold houses to live aboard. They rely on limited savings, and/or work as they go. They often don't carry insurance. The very rich don't have small sailboats, they have large powerboats. They don't skipper themselves, and don't make offshore passages where the orcas are. They're lounging in the marina.
*THIS* is peak America. In the best way possible. Loud, skillful, funny, and spectacular. Not hurting anybody, nor involving serious risk to the participants.Way better than destructive offroad 4x4s or dangerous stunts. Bravo!

Because of the electoral college, if ~135 thousand people switched their votes (or an extra 270k had turned out) in the right four states ( MI, NV, WI, GA ) Harris would have won in 2024. 152 *MILLION* people voted. 135 *THOUSAND* to flip the election. Less than 1/10th of 1 percent.
