Was expecting donut, not dissapointed...
Besides there's nothing to ground on the bottom, so I didn't bother filling it. What do you suggest I should do?
I'm no expert, I'm just a hobbyist, but on the top side there are many things to ground, adding a ground trace would've been more complex.
Make sure it's plugged in. If it is then it's probably a blown fuse.

As I said before, learn how trees work.

A couple of half inch holes won't hurt the tree, chances are it will still be as healthy as always.
Everyone can do it with enough patience ;) , the key is to take it slow and enjoy the process, not the final result.
I had one of those when I was a kid and my neighbor's cat always pooped in it.
