Then aplural tense is used later causing the interpretation that this one huge giga-frog then split off into millions more.

That sucks. Things were bad here, but not that bad. It's easy to forget sometimes how things were elsewhere. it's only been 6 years, but it feels like 100 lifetimes with the non-stop assault of insanity we face everyday.
