I get a similar reaction from people, until they get to know me. I say that I'm autistic (was Asperger's on diagnosis, but that's all changed now) and their reply is "are you?, you don't seem it". People don't seem to realise that you're masking at all.Some people also don't seem to realise it's a defence. If I let my weird out I'll be in trouble. Sometimes I forget myself.
I have a corgi too. She does exactly this.

Yeah, it's very waggy, corgis are often born with tail but are docked as puppies. It's now illegal to dock dogs in the UK
