I was brought up in a Catholic household, I've since left religion. One core memory was chatting to this kid my own age who happened to so the same swimming pool at the same time on Sundays. One time I asked whether he was at church that morning and he informed me he was a protestant. I wasn't sure what that was at the time but I knew it made him different to me. The reality was that he wasn't different at all, but he was forever changed in my eyes from that moment on.

That's so interesting. My comment was of course generalising but I have lived in some, and visited many European countries. Just re-reading your comment again, are you saying that the flags were always there or just went up for those special occasions?
In Europe we generally don't see country flags a lot. When we do see a flag we do tend to regard the owners with a little suspicion.

There are definitely cases where some very niche practices are only being kept up by a select few elderly people. I guess parts of it dying out are inevitable
You've summed it up nicely. It is a romanticised country and I would recommend everyone to visit if they can. Working there can fucking suck though
I've lived there for a few years and have a good understanding of the looming crisis. Not sure how that affects the culture directly, the population will still be 80million. It will fuck over the economy I'm sure but the culture?
I'm not sure how it's dwindling. Half the country is protected by UNESCO world heritage status by now
What is spelling out the word 'socks' was a way to say 'It is what it is' in Spanish
