Snakes aren't blind, but their eyesight is poor. Some species rely on heat pits to find prey

Upgraded as they grow, taken out for cleaning, breeding. More intelligent species like retics have large enclosures.

So defanging is literally ripping the fangs out of their mouth where a venomoid animal has its venom glands removed which is much safer 1/1
