The US doesn’t have any refineries that process the type of oil the US produces. We sell our oil and buy oil from elsewhere.

I was addressing Kyzyl’s original comment, which implied we eliminate the current threshold for inheritance taxes. I agree that people inheriting $50 million should be (and are) heavily taxed. On the other hand, inheriting a $300,000 house should be tax free.
Some Libertarian ideas have worked out quite well. Decriminalizing marijuana in the US worked great. Decriminalizing basically everything in Portugal is working out even better.
Right, so it would be a radical move to tax those as normal income. I would support taxing estates, but it’s not as simple as liquid income. Perhaps make the tax into a long loan, so people can pay it without selling the house, or whatever.
Most inheritance is hard goods, not money. On a practical level, how would I pay a 37% tax on the family farm?
Tax write offs just means the money you gave away doesn’t get taxed. It’s not a way to hide money. It just means the government pretends you never had that money in the first place.

Something I try to explain to other people my age, as well as people your age, is that while we may use the same word, meanings have radically shifted. That can result in people talking past each other. For example, in old person English, “woman” means human with a vagina.
“Cis women” also doesn’t encompass the group of people who grew up with anti-female discrimination. Trans men face the same discrimination growing up that cis women do.
Honest question: I think trans women & women from birth face different challenges and it’s okay to recognize that. I don’t think either should be discriminated against. Does that make me a terf or no?

I like that it felt true to the comic but it could’ve been so much better if they’d found a writer who could write court room drama. I want 70% more lawyering in season 2
