Different languages and dialects come up with their own names for other cultures all the time. Many of them are so commonplace that nobody even realizes they're technically "wrong". Take the Germans for example. They call themselves Deutsch, we call them German, the Italians call them Tedesco, and the Spanish call them Alemán. There's etymological history for why that is, but nobody bats an eyelash at it because it's been that way longer than anyone can remember.

Considering that the original use of the word "dissonance" was not incorrect in the first place, outside of this one niche interpretation... pretentious is the only word I have for this.

I mean, it's disgusting to us, but logically it makes sense. They're not viable eggs because they didn't get stuck inside the mussel, so it's better to eat them and not let the nutrients go to waste.
