The tarantulas would just freeze when we would walk up to them like they wouldn't be seen if they didn't move. Obvi we noticed them easily.

Yes! But they don't fund the (dems/reps) campaigns and they don't lobby or make deals. That said I don't like political parties so: biased.
They'd give us a small garden with a bench or two! But in all seriousness, Austin, TX and some areas protect land almost religiously.
