The code was so bad that it was almost gorgeous. I think I still have screen shot of it somewhere.
Also, I once was able to remove a 6x nested loop and do the same work with a single loop. Processing time went from about 4 min to 3 sec
It was in "synergy" which was an off shoot of DIBOL which was a proprietary offshoot of COBOL. I didn't stay long.
My worst job as a developer, I started and they were still using / maintaining code that was older than I was (I was ~28 at the time) 1/2
I made a free to use site (pageless.us) that is aimed at helping students save money on their books. It shows all legal options.
To be fully upfront, I do make money if you use the site, but it is 100% free to use!

There are usually options that have the exact same content, but the problem is that the student doesn't know those options exist.
It's free too. It's new as of this semester.

I went to a tiny hs in MT. Moved for my senior year. There were 3 people in my class. Last place got salutatorian.
Fair warning, I have recently finished developing this site, so I'm biased. But it is free to use, and can really save you a ton!
For the Textbooks one: Can I add pageless.us This site will show prices for the same book in different contents- loose leaf vs bound vs pdf

But you have to watch out for a stack overflow, which can get messy.
