It's a joke based on the lesser used definition of amateur meaning lacking skill - regardless of whether or not you are paid.
Thank you. I had only been doing photography for a short time in 2009 so these were what I consider lucky shots as I was learning my style.

Yep. I'm a writer by trade. The joke leans on the second, lesser used, definition.
I lived at Warhorse across the way from 1-5. I covered 1-25 from March - end of tour.

FOB Warhorse had the best DFAC. We had GOs come from Baghdad just to eat there.
I was not organic to 1-25. I was an attachment. I did leave two feet of snow at Fort Dix, NJ behind when I went overseas.
It's called slat armor and was to protect against RPGs.
