excellent motivation for a baby to learn to use its trunk!
when i was in prison i taught an elderly illiterate inmate to read and write. he was a lifer and was never getting out, but his one goal was to be able to read and reply to the letters his young granddaughter would write to him every week. i had no training in teaching literacy but had access to some old phonics books, and we used them to drill every day for a couple of years until things finally fell into place and he was able to start sounding out her letters with little or no help from me.
i would bail on that job and forward that email to the entire company on my way out by way of explanation

yeah, i guess it's become more common/expected in the context of large media franchises like star wars. not so much with standalone movies like thx.
this also reversed the common media pattern of movies being based on books when award winning science fiction writer ben bova later wrote a novel based on this film.
reminds me of a road sign i saw on a cross-country bike trip years ago. i was riding through coal mining country in wyoming and saw a warning sign by the side of the road: "caution, blasting area ahead. if you see an orange cloud roll up your windows immediately."
