I think it'd be more effective to blind his eyes
Companies buying stuff is a problem in all of tech. Many ideas get bought by large companies so they can't turn into competitors. Most of the time, such ideas never see the light of day again after the acquisition. We, society, have missed out on an incredible amount of great products this way.
imgur has rules agains this. "No content that attacks, bullies, or harrasses non-public people:any image taken of or from someone without their knowledge or consent for the purpose of harassment or abuse"
It's also nice. Means that if you're not stupid, the exits are still free when you get up to leave.

I think the point is that the "stepfamily" genre becoming insanely popular is only possible because the group of people that really have these fantasies about family is not as small as you'd think.
