I dont understand opposition to health insurance. Growing up in a country without health insurance, everytime I heard about anyone in my family or friends or even just someone I know, having some health issues, I felt helpless that I couldnt help them with money. Now with healthcare, I rather focus on being there for them.

Yeah cats are considered clean.
Its more complicated than that. Dogs are not allowed where you pray. Not sure the reason behind it. But also, in general, they are required to be kind to the animals, and feeding them is a passive good deed. So I have seen people who take care of animals around their houses. Its quite common.
In general, stray animals in turkey are very well taken care of. They are like communal pets. When I was there, stray dogs and cats were very well fed, and friendly.
