YEA, THE first half or so is VERY VERY story heavy. It's good though, if not cliche. Unlike the first game which had an open, yet controlled sandbox to play in that you could spend hours doing random quests before doing main story.
All Metroids are about that length honestly. The fun is getting better, faster and replaying MANY times.

Most Metroid games can be beaten in 2 Hrs. The fun is seeing how fast you can go with how few items. Replayability.
