I've never watched Absolute Duo, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry is basically a near copy of it.
In season 2, Supes affectionately calls Connor his little brother. They even have attack combos together, so yea it just took Supes awhile.
