I don’t know what stopped me. I had everything set up. I think, weirdly, it’s my absolute fear of failure that did it. Instead I got drunk and went to sleep

#5 I miss my old B&H

That’s part of the issue, the writers are looking for equality across the board, streaming, trad tv and film. Content is content and all should be paid the same

Have there been discussions about joining IATSE in your area? In Toronto most engineers are covered under Unifor 79m or Unifor NABET 700m depending on region.

It’s still not 2, and a lot of the time showrunners will write the outline and each episode is written by a different staff writer. So even though they have 6 writers in staff each is writing a different episode. Have you ever been in a writers room?

No, last strike was over hourly pay and residuals. This is about category pay equity and AI. If you have two writers one writes for The Equalizer on CBS and gets paid $75,000 a season because it’s network and the other writes for The Citadel on Prime for $40,000 because it’s a “web series” would you think that’s fair?

Yeah he lied by consistently citing double peer reviewed and fact checked information instead of whacked out opinions.

As of the contract that ended in 2020, extended to now: a network 60 min prime time show, CSI, Chicago whatever, Grey’s anatomy etc. the show runner/ head writer makes $75,000 a season. The same show on a streaming service, Wednesday, Citadel, Outer Banks etc: $40,000 a season

Yes!!! You guys need fair pay!!! With all the BS you put up with, it’s insane!

Kinda have to point out that the writers are fighting stuff that is already happening. Which is WHY stuff has been sucking lately

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The ask is, not to use AI in place of a unionized writer. Hiring a dude willing to use AI, which already happens, is fine I guess as long as they are a union writer getting paid union rates

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which is why one of the proposals is that unionized shows cannot use AI in place of a writer

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You’re so close. No they aren’t trying to hire more writers than needed, remember this includes Head Writer/Showrunner, story editors, clearances, and individual character writers. So so yeah 6 per half hour episode isn’t out of the ordinary. What they are fighting is, losing work to AI and streaming services paying an outdated rate.

That’s why there is the union, to prevent this type of cannibalistic undercutting

What you’re asking is if an artists work that generates BILLIONS of dollars a year has value over something created by a machine. Which in turn asks, is a machine worth more than a human life?

And the proposals are also not that unreasonable

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That’s exactly what’s happening, but with the added caveat of getting paid less for more work and studios/streaming services taking advantage of an outdated loophole in the contract
