Yup, I've seen it many many times. There is a reason why all raves I work for have a 'No Large Props' policy.
They never intend harm, just not being aware. A "can we take this over there so we don't block the halls" usually solves it.. for 5 mins..
Ya, we get quite a few large cosplays {anime/gaming} Typically works out, but the amount of times a hall is blocked for a 'quick photo'

Only tip I've ever given to gas guy was one who unprompted cleaned my windows. First time in 5 years someone did that. Impressed me.
Only tip if they do something that isn't their 'modern day' job. Check oil, do windows, tires, something that actually is 'good service'.

Its hard to tell who is a legit lurker, and who is a scammer. It's up to the organizers of the thing. All you can do is hope for the best.
