While you're correct on a basic level, studies have shown that people are still absolutely shit at actually detecting lies with only about 50% accuracy, which means pure chance. And the more difficult or higher stakes the question, the less accurate they become as those questions require more consideration before answering.This is exacerbated even more by foreign speakers, as they tend to translate in their heads, as well as with neurodivergent people.Tldr?
