Just a longtime lurker decloaking to post some interesting stuff, and give back to the community. Oh hey, made it to Renowned. Nice!

I'm not American, so they can eat my entire asshole.

Can confirm, I have the same thing. There's 'achieve sufficient frustration saturation that a sudden physical action which COULD be violent is likely to occur' and it's training ourselves to remove ourselves from the situation. When I am so frustrated that I get jittery enough to lash at something, it's because I am constrained, usually by social rules, to remain in the situation with the stressor. I am *in the process of losing control*, but I have never 'lost control' in that sense.

beautiful but also the very rational fear of falling part of me is going: nope nope nope nope nope- all it'd take is a stiff gust.

bold of you to assume these ever came with instructions.

I looked up the original article. It's the combination of 1x Microsoft Datacentre and 1x Army Datacenter. The latter is bigger. AI is a subfactor: it's driving demand for datacenters. It doesn't matter what they're being used for, AI or not, just existing moves a huge amount of water around, and in locations like deserts, evaporating that water doesn't mean it rains down in the desert.

Maybe the people who built their city in the middle of the goddamn desert are wrong.

Server stacks use a lot of water cooling, and the most efficient is evaporative open system, which dumps the water outside basically. In naturally arid climates like Texas, places that routinely suffer droughts continue to suffer droughts regardless of how much groundwater datacenters use. These are depleting the natural groundwater faster than it refills, but that's nothing AI specific. The AI specific part is that AI is causing demand for more and more powerful datacenters.

Pitbulls can be great dogs, and in most cases, the ones that go completely apeshit crazy and try to eat a human child or murder all the dogs in the area have 8+ years of being a loving lounge dog who wouldn't hurt a fly. They have a predisposition towards psychotic episodes that occurs often enough in pitbulls to be statistically noticeable- and when it happens they go totally crazy and murderous.

It sucks because there's no way to tell if it's going to happen- they're good until they aren't.

Every year at Christmas, my parents would take me christmas shopping and ask me exactly what I wanted for Christmas. I would scour the isles and find the one or two exact things I wanted, and we would buy it and donate it to charity. When Christmas came I got socks and sweaters instead.

As an adult, I appreciate that my parents were donating to charity and getting me practical gifts, but also as an adult who the fuck does that to a child?

No, the alternative is they just don't produce content. So you have 'doesn't produce content and doesn't pay artists' or 'produces content and doesn't pay artists'.

It's the same reason people pirate things. Can't get it legitimately, can't afford it, etc, If they could afford it, they would. Since they can't, they never would have if AI didn't exist.

He's gonna put an end to this for sure.

Thirty years of service fighting fires. One more thing Trump'll put an end to when he gets in.

If they're not advocating to murder people like us and you're working to get them to understand that we are people and our experiences are valid that is entirely different.

If they actively want to kill all the gays, then they do not deserve a voice at the table.

idk if tabletop simulator really counts as a video game, but it would be fine. I can spawn in objects, have full internet connectivity, can play games, talk to people, heck, I can even work my regular job to keep the lights on at home from inside the game.

Yes, though it was an ordeal. The roommate came home, realized the cats had escaped, and ran out to find them. Cat #1 didn't go anywhere and was on the porch. Cat #2 was just gone, and while trying to find them the neighbors mentioned they'd seen a Coyote fighting with something in the yard that night. They kept searching but eventually assumed the worse, blamed (rightly so) my friend, and took their remaining cat and moved out.

Two weeks after that, Cat #2 came home.

Two weeks later cat #2 came back.

A friend of mine is an alcoholic and has been getting worse and worse over the last year. They were so sloshed a few weeks ago that they decided to open all the windows, and their roommate's indoor only cats escaped.
