Mechanic in the USA. Long, long, long time lurker from the East coast. AMA and I will try my best to get back to you.

But they only sell those on specialty websites/raceshops. The pads from Autozone/O'Reilly/wherever are always oe fitment.

They also sell pads with different thicknesses. If your caliper can't spread open that much x2 plus the thickness of the rotor, don't buy.

To add, don't put really hard pads on soft rotors. Try and buy the combo pads and rotors if you switch to a more racing pad application.

Make model year of car? Front of rear? Squeaks only when you press pedal? Check for wheel movement up and down/side to side.

Different pads combined with correct rotor material can Increase braking performance. Racecars use full metallic pads which are really hard.

The backing plate was not fitted right, partially rubbing against the rotor too.

Yeah shop labor can be 150$/hr. Techs don't even get a quarter of that. Blame greed.

14mm caliper bolts 17mm caliper bracket bolts 21mm lug nuts and a clamp. So pretty much any 50$ tool kit and a 7 dollar c clamp will do. :)

Those labor times were written with an OEM procedure to follow. I did an aftermarket Clutch master on my old camaro and it was easy af.

We had a 2 year old volvo in the shop, needed a cabin air filter- common part, took 1 week to arrive at the shop. It happens man.

I agree, its not for everyone.

So you guys got the part from 100 miles away, shipped same day, installed it for me, warrantied the work, and you want me to pay labor?

Master or slave cylinder?

All the people in this post trying to justify not affording brakes have new iPhones and a car that sparks.

That 650 was Diagnostic/labor/part/6month warranty. More power to you if you could do it yourself, just don't bring your shadetree work here

No they're trying to justify driving around a 3500 lb vehicle with failed brakes. The person they kill will surely "Understand".

Keep trying to make excuses for your poor decisions. The more fucked up your car gets the more money I make fixing it :)

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 22

Think he's implying how other mechanics can fuck up brake jobs, not just anyone.

You mean for them to be broken? Yea.

Usually we test drive any NVH (Noise vibration harshness) complaint, this went straight into the work bay (slowly).

"I had kids when I couldn't afford it" B-BUT SHADY SHOPS.

I'll never feel sympathy for you, keep your rust buckets off the road. Your poor financial decisions are no excuse to put others in danger.

Did you buy a battery too?

Literally HotWheels

If money is the case why not just buy the tools/parts and do it yourself? Also why a lot of mechanics do work on their own time.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 38

No joke, we have some people that ask, "How much is the oil change without the filter".

Thank you for your kind words, things like this happen and I am just glad I can fixed them properly.
