Proxmox isn't 'enterprise grade' from our CIO. Hyper-V or Azure migration.
The fuckery around enterprise licensing blew up in our face. Bought $50m in hardware for a datacenter refresh and the VMWare acquisition made it cost almost 40m$ over the 5 year life of the hardware and quadruple the original opex, JUST in support. Between that and killing perpetual licenses and cost per core licensing vs socket licensing they can just get absolutely fucked.
Yeah, VMWare is just the end of a long list of terrible things that company has done. We need to break their patent hold on networking and networking chips if anyone ever expects to compete with them.
99% of that is because of about a dozen patents they hold on network silicon. This is why patents should be challenged often. If you take them out of that patent lock you increase competition and prevent them from continuing to absorb good companies and make them bad.
Broadcom buys up tech companies that have large customers, absolutely fucks everyone over and creates a vendor lock-in situation that the largest companies can't escape and end up spending in some cases hundreds of millions of dollars to maintain services after Broadcoms 'enhancements.' Just think of them as the Bank of America for the technology sector.
