Thank you for asking. Those are cucumbers. But for some reason they ripen before they grow to a bigger size. Or outcome of crosspollination.

Thank you for asking. Not at all, I placed whole onion into the soil bottom first just about 1/4 inch deep water it 1-2 weeks it will grow.
You could certainly add more sugar to the batter if it's not sweet enough for you.
I prefer using unsalted butter since it is easier to control the amount of salt in the recipe. If using salted butter, no need for more salt
