And also, 'eh, 2.5 years compared to an entire lifetime.' It's not quite as bad, but I feel like you wouldn't tell a war veteran 'eh, a 12-month tour of duty compared to an entire lifetime.'

The only reason you have government shut/downs in the first place is because Congress passed a law saying you can only have so much debt.

So, in the service at 18, out at 19, right into Police Academy. I knew one guy who did exactly that.
And women can volunteer to do it along with the guys, for whom it is mandatory. Most Finns who want to be cops spend their service as MPs
Her military service was most likely 9-12 months as an MP, as Finland has conscription (6-12 months, depending on the specialisation)...
