Wow, look at that thing! Seems it's still in very good condition.
It looks like it could be driven from below, but there's a huge opening on the backside of the headstock for the pulley.
It's a modular v-belt, not a chain. Yes, that cylindrical unit in back is the motor.

Yes, that's it. The stand was built out of an unknown piece of unrelated hardware and a big sheet of steel.
It's extremely expensive. The only time I've ever seen it being sold in person was on Kauai, HI, and the guy was asking around $200 per slab
ASU Tempe's Art Warehouse woodshop. The most well-equipped woodshop Ive ever had the pleasure of working in. The guy who runs it is amazing.
I used a bowl gouge and a lot of patience.

Oh god, yeah it is. 70% of this project was just trying to get those damn 3-way joints down pat. I made and broke at least 20 test joints.
