We're not asking for anything, we just wanted to say farewell before moving on instead of just ghosting Imgur. Even on discord we weren't going to reveal everything. These waters would get muddy way too quick and we never wanted that. It's already crazy enough how these last days went down.

No, not the hobby. Just the place that we've posted it in for the past five years. We didn't want to get into the reasons to avoid drama and just say farewell. Staff actively tried to prevent us from doing that, so drama ensued.
But it won't matter soon. We're not gonna look back, apparently a large portion of Imgur won't give two shits either, so it's all good. We've hopefully reached the ones that do care and that's great.
No, this whole thing was purely driven by us just wanting something more friendly and open than the gif-wars that used to happen.
Personally I will be working towards making a couple of bucks out of these skillsets but I also know I'm not even close to getting there. Irongif however won't be monetized. The headaches around involving even a small amount of money into a group effort aren't worth it.
So yeah, it's just a fun hobby.

Imgur has been calling mp4s gifs since the start of this site practically. Even the ones without sound have been mp4s in a gifv container, so yeah. MP4 wars or IronMP4 just doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely

Affinity is good enough for the little bit I need it, I only miss Lightroom. Done a couple of Lego stop motion and it's horrible to edit thousands of pics in affinity still.

Yep, the last...five? Posts of mine have all been done in Davinci. Together with Affinity and Blender you can practically make Hollywood quality movies if you've got a couple thousand hours to spend :D
That said, it's not hard to make a mask, add text and track it and I've no problem walking you through it. Maybe a basic tutorial first to get to know the UI and important buttons and the rest just needs time to get used to it all.
I bought Davinci resolve like 4 years ago and finally made the switch this year. Buy once, keep forever. It doesn't do everything that Adobe does, but it's getting there fast. They have a free version too.
However if you're only just getting into it I would definitely suggest ehm...other...ways. And just give it a whirl. Maybe you've already joined our discord, we've got a channel there for all questions you might have.

Personally I wouldn't have learned any of this without the people participating in it. And there's tons left to learn, most of my gifs used pretty basic stuff. Not being stuck in the same old habit and leaving Imgur is hopefully going to spark that motivation again.

Not without stepping into some muddy waters that I'd rather not get into. We really tried to have a fairly uneventful exit and just move on.
Before yesterday I wasn't 100% sure it's a thing and it's been denied by staff that it is, but it was so blatantly obvious on the @IronGIF post yesterday there was literally no other explanation than a manual intervention.
It's not that simple. Algorithms take into account the overall activity, views and whatnot. Generally if you looked at Usersub Popular and the post was in top 10 for 4 hours, you'd get there.

That's just the point in time where it was frozen. The post yesterday was frozen at the very top of Usersub popular with 110 points and stayed there for 3 hours. It would have 100% made it to FP.
Oh of course, it's not just about gifs, if you just wanna chat and look at some of the stuff we do that's totally fine and encouraged.
