Even if Jury wanted to give them a hasher sentence may times the judge over rules it and or the law don't allow it. This need to be something that is addressed a the polls. But maybe too many lawmakers are rapists.
There is a difference between wanting more punishment for those that commit rape and just having a clouded judgment. The argument that they could not see the facts of the case clearly is a legitimate one.
NO they do not. That is the entire point of Jury nullification. Your peers have the right and ability to pardon you. That is why fathers and mothers who kill pedos rarely get tired or sentence. Same reason why linching went on for so long.When you are on a Jury the power of law is in the hands of the Jury.
