Well seeing as the ottomans were literally an empire named after a guy in the 1400s who was like fk it we ball, im not sure they get to claim anything. Theres other people who resisted/were never assimilated as well and kept their culture and identity as much as they could, which to me says way more about resisting subjugation than implementing as much of their culture and religion that you take their name to be yours.
